Dear LF group,
I have been trying the 'Eclipse' data logging software in preparation
for group CFH monitoring experiments - it seems to be working
fine, although I can't get all parts of the eclipse window visible on
my primitive monitor. Whilst trying it out last night, I noticed there
seemed to be no CFH on about 137.04kHz where it has been
transmitting a carrier lately. Conditions seemed quite strange, the
low level of noise and lack of signals had me checking antenna
connections, but everything seemed OK. At roughly 2215 a carrier
appeared at about 136.95, being keyed on and off intermittently
(CFH station cat loose again?). Eventually it came on as a
continuous carrier, and was fading out in the usual way when I left
for work this morning.
I assume this actually was CFH - they seem to be altering things
around again. G3NYK's chart on ON7YD's web site shows
something similar. The SNR looked like a pretty impressive 30dB at
best on Alan's chart, and this was about what I was seeing too.
This should easily be good enough for QRSS with 1W ERP, and
wouldn't have to improve that much for normal CW - we need to get
some more tests going!
Since today is Friday, I intend to be QRV on 73 kHz again this
evening, hopefully from 2000 onwards. I will mainly be listening for
cross-band QSOs on around 137.7kHz. As always, any reports
would be welcome.
