Hi Jim, thanks for your comments! >> higher elevation angles ... could emphasize the process Yes I think that is the case. We can try to verify the hypothesis on receive: Go to the DL0AO grabber https://vlf.u01.de/ and scroll down to the four stacked 424 uHz spectrograms. On the 26th and 27th, Stefan's trace from the institute (8270.000 Hz) went through midday minima around 12 UT. On the earth loop shown in vlf3 (top spectrogram, labeled "EW"), the minimum is indeed much deeper than on the E-field probe (vlf11, "V"). Dez 2018 17:47 Betreff: RE: LF: VLF Carrier on 8270.01 Hz from a ground loop antenna - The 6th station on Paul's spectrogram Good diagnosis Markus; and excellent to see six ~ 8270 Hz signals on Paul’s grabber! I wonder if the distribution of the Earth loop’s radiation pattern includes a somewhat higher percentage of higher elevation angles (than with the five electric field antennas recently operating at 8270 Hz), which could emphasize the process that Markus described. I think that Paul’s grabber’s 186 hour window with the six ~ 8270 Hz signals including diurnals and coordination is suitable for framing, a beautiful sight. 73, Jim AA5BW
