That's 'cos they explode rather than glow! I speak from experience!

Dear Tom, LF Group,

With the recent progress in high-temperature semiconductors based on silicon carbide and other materials, devices that work at 650degrees C now exist. Glowing MOSFETs may be a practical proposition before long - I wonder if that will bring about a resurgence in ebonite panels and brass terminals?
