Thank you to all those who suggested solutions to my sound card
problem.
I now have a PCMCIA USB2 card on order from eBay (less than £5) and
am bidding on a PCMCIA Soundblaster sound card. One or other will
certainly fix it.
Once again the group proves its worth as a resource.
