Hi Graham / All

First apologies to all for the test posts, it seems I have now cleared the blockage somehow.

A couple more tests with that desktop computer which drifts (sound card) failed to decode at fair signal levels, so it does effect the capability of the system.

Today I have a locked carrier on 8970.05 generated in Speclab, I have been looking at keying it, that will take another computer, and it will take another to receive it. I can eliminate one by PIC coding it but that would take longer. It will need to keep raining.

I go into the sound card direct from my RX antenna 24m away from the sound card outputting -26.5dB into a bit of wire.

I haven't looked at the news group for ages may take a butchers,

Eddie

-44 . that's  the  Op  reported level ? so  could  be    -50 / -52 in  wspr  levels .. should  be able to  loose  45% , but  don't  forget the  s/n is the  average  over the  time line , so for a full  capture, you  could be  ~~ 10 db over the limit ??

Are you  using  a  pre-amp  etc  of just  directly  into the  sound card Ed, ?.  some  questions in the  news  group  over  filters etc , I think  one of the  simple  pre-amps  may  be the  best option ??

Tnx -G..

OK Graham

Well you wouldn't want to radiate an untidy signal.

Second decode was -44dB, about 10dB / Noise in 46mHz. Signal level varied and about 20% data lost in a block, XYL re arranged the configuration of the dining table antenna, they just don't understand!

Tnx Ed,

Steady carrier, that should be  one of the  advantages of Op  on  8Khz , no  real  problems with  sound card 's  and  frequency  stability !
Look's  like  you  may have  some  signals  from PA soon , not  sure  what's happened  to  all the  UK  Tx  stations , I know  there was a  problem  with  having to  inform  the  met-office  ..
