Agreed. Here in the US a current(!) copy of the NEC (National
Electrical Code) is an essential night-stand accoutrement.
And ditto on the isolated work-bench/radio supply. Add to that a mondo
UPS and a ferro-resonant transformer (of mass rivalling an upright piano).
Perhaps the most dodgy thing we radio people do (well, in an electrical
sense) is create our own grounds willy-nilly, banging in copper hither
and yon. Making sure these don't become part (or even the best part!)
of the mains ground is essential; at least transformer isolating
feedlines coming from such grounding arrangements is necessary to avoid
this.

Hi John and All,
At least you do have a copy John. My strong suggestion is that all of us
"who play radio" should have a copy close by. The readily available
"Electrician's Guide to the 17th Edition ...etc" by John Whitfield
should be obtainable from Amazon and elsewhere (mine came from
Waterstones) and is highly recommended. It covers the IEE Wiring
Regulations BS7671 (2008) and Part P of the Building Regs. I can't
remember the price but I would suggest that the info within is priceless
if it prevents a dangerous occurrence.
