Mal Mal Mal...

Taking your logic to the next level, you'd be just as screwed as the rest of us as your appliances consume power and with the grid zapped you won't be using your tube rig very long on a battery...  And your razor blade would be better used to fend off looters come May 21st ;-)

Also, have you forgot why and by whom the Internet was created?  The US military.  The intent was to create a network that could survive huge disruptions in a sense that no part of it is critical.  To date, there has never been a complete shutdown of the modern internet, which can't be said for radio communications which get zapped every time there's intense solar activity.

Yes it is ture radio is important as a backup and yes skilled operators are needed but lets keep our feet on the ground and deal with the fact those skills you hold so dear are artifacts of the past and have largely been replaced by other equally useful skills...

Back to HF/DF using CW for a FIX and traditional Nav methods,  shooting the stars and dead reckoning.
When we get a real EMP that Zaps the solid state equipment those with the old valve/tube radios and able to TX/RX morse will be highly sought after.
Satellite communications can be Zapped/Jammed by amateurs never mind professionals  and likewise the Internet Hacked and rendered useless. Has someone forgot about the security aspect when designing the so called digital technology of today.
When you Radio Operators are all knocked out call me on CW on your 6V6/807 TX  and razor blade detector RX
Appliance Operators you are doomed !!
