3 watts into the feedline with my 70' vertical on 600 meters covers 100 miles in daylight with CW by the ear copy. Very easy to hear the signal with decent equipment. At night that same 3 watts in regular CW covers 500 miles with decent band conditions and a decent receiver on the other end. It won't work every night but it works every day in the groundwave coverage area.

QRP is always possible. Not for everyone. I use it sometimes for a challenge.
