If I understand it correctly, the french text of the Europe 1 web
pages (http://home.worldnet.fr/~tvignaud/am/e1/fr-e1.htm) says the
forward gain of the antenna is 3, and signals off the back of the
antenna are attenuated by "1/1000", presumably a forward gain of
about 5dB, and -30dB front to back ratio.

The text reads:

Les antennes sont constituées de 4 pylônes métalliques. L'entre-axes

Four metal towers constitute the antenna.. The distance between those towers is
350 meters. Respective heights: 270, 276, 280 and 283 meters. The towers have a
triangular section, 3 meter on the side. Power distribution [to each tower] is
2%. 56%, 41% 1% for a radiation pattern of 220 degrees (south west) with a gain
of 3, and an attenuation of the rear lobes better than 1/1000.
The ground connection is made of a 3 millimeter diameter copper cable, buried
30 cm under the ground, and 195 kilometer long.
