In the receiver debate recently, someone mentioned that the RCA AR88D
receiver was a Diversity
receiver. This is not the case. The receiver is a stand alone single
receiver and covers the range
535 khz - 32 mhz in 6 ranges. The other RCA receiver available at the
same time was the AR88LF, which covered 73 khz - 30.500 mhz in 6
ranges. There was a gap between 550 khz and 1480 khz.
I have the original RCA manuals for both receivers and have owned
several of these receivers over the years. They are described as General
Purpose Receivers and were used as such.
If frequency diversity is required then two or more receivers can be
coupled together to give a common af output.
In commercial applications if frequency diversity was required then
purpose built receivers were used. There was also space diversity where
more than two antennas were used and spaced several wavelengths apart to
counteract signal fade.
