The corona rings I am using look something like the attached drawing. The idea came from high voltage power lines, which often have something similar. Although I am using PA0SE's ceramic insulators for stand-offs, I use little 100mm long plastic insulators for the main span of the wire, because they are lighter and reduce sag. They seem to withstand an estimated 22kV without problems now the corona rings are fitted.
