I etched my crystals with hydrofluoric (not hydrochloric) acid.This acid is extremely dangerous and deadly. It can only be stored in raw rubber bottles or bottles coated inside with bees wax (not synthetic). You are not likely to be able to buy it anywhere without a permit, fortunately. A little less deadly is phosphoric acid but it is much slower in action. You can grind crystals on a flat glass panel with a little of very fine carborundum powder mixed to a paste with paraffin. Rub gently pressing with one finger describing a letter 8. You can also gring the crystal plate edgewise. A little at a time does the trick but it is tedious work. I even used sandpaper to make the quarz thinner and thus increase the
frequency. That worked
sometimes up to 10%.
