Hi Paul, I'm no "expert" :-)) I have a sort of "executive level"
understanding of some of the terms picked but by playing with digits (well,
RTTY onwards) since 1970, my maths is well beyond it sell-by date so an
exposition like that is very useful, though I do have a "feeling" for
convolution and correlation, probability and FFTs.etc.
I do note that Andy (the datacomms columnist for Radcom) has posted the
link to the RSGBtech forum/yahoo group.
Thanks again
Alan

Thanks for the generous words and I'm relieved that none
of the resident experts have spotted any ghastly errors.
I hope I've dispelled some of the mystery but retained all
the magic. It remains no less fascinating to see a message
decode from deep under the noise, perhaps more so when
knowing how it works.

I haven't posted it anywhere else, please share the link if
you think others will benefit. This mailing list is my only
contact with amateur radio - I'm not sure where else to post.
Added links to the random codebooks I've been using. For those
who enjoy programming, it's fun and quite easy to make up a
simple program to simulate the baseband comms.
(I did that myself a couple of years ago - a little program to
help me learn about FEC... it evolved into EbNaut).
