Many thanks to all who listened for my 72kHz beacon on Tuesday. I was a
silly old fool and switched on the beacon at 0732 BST but did not check it
until after breakfast. At 0845 I discovered that the gain control on the
local oscillator was set at minimum and the input to the antenna was
therefore only a few watts. I had been testing the system the previous
night and had forgotten to reset the gain control when I went to bed! I
turned up the gain at 0845 on Tuesday but by then I suspect that some of
you may have already given up. As from 0845 BST the system was on full
power but slowly drifted slightly lower in frequency and as no one heard me
I must conclude that there is something wrong with the system. It used to
give quite good signals at 500 kM using ordinary morse, even when Rugby was
active, so I am extremely puzzled but I will keep on trying in the hope
that someone may occasionally listen on the band.
Thank you for your forbearance.
73, Roger, G2AJV.
