BE: Situation at DF2PY´s QTH

       Dear all,

I am giving you this information to let you know that many of the
problems at the QTH of DF2PY have been solved last weekend.
It took Wolf and me several hours to find solutions and we have
made great progress in Wolf´s ability to copy weak stations now
One of the main problems was receiver front end overload (FT1000)
caused by LF transmitters in this area.

After adding some of the major necessary mods Wolf was able to
see on screen (using my PC) and also hear stations from the UK, HB9
and DL which otherwise were not audible/visible.

However, one of our biggest problems in this area remains unsolved:
sideband-splatter from DLF (on 153 kHz) during periods of 100 %
modulation. The band around 137 kHz is covered with about 10...12
db
of hash noise which of course completely covers any weak signals
       which might be there...
I am currently trying to find an elegant way how to convince the
engi-
neers at the DLF transmitter site to help us....

I have several recordings available as Bitmap-files showing this
problem (in case someone is interested in seeing them).

Stations in the UK are living with the LORAN-C sidelines but they
can
hear between the lines. Stations in DL in this area
(Rhein-Main-Neckar
region) have to live with the hash noise. But this is everywhere
and there
is even more "unfriendly" stuff from the LF transmitter site at
Mainflingen.

I hope you all see the efforts we are making in this area to
improve the
reception of weak signals on LF.

       Peter, DJ8WL / JN49JV
(ex: DA0LF, on LF since June 1997)
