Mal, I will admit that I have my concerns occasionally about some of your pronouncements on certain issues... but in this instance, *to a degree*, I have to agree with your sentiments on this particular subject. While I see the need of and interest in *all* modes of communications, I also bemoan the subservience of the operator to the technology. I am a SWL'er, not being licensed (although looking at FCC Part 15 options maybe later), and my presence on this list is out of interest rather than actual active participation in transmission. As such, I have had my fair share of moments of straining my ears and fiddling with knobs to tune in the difficult DX-- and I guess that, as much as I respect the op with the skill to get a
weak signal out great distances using the technology at hand, I have to say that the 'small-child fascination' is lost for me, along with some of the fun, when I think of some of these digital modes. Of course, that's just me. Even so, I loudly applaud what the ops on this list have accomplished and will yet accomplish. Now excuse me, I have to get the tension adjusted in the string between my tin can and the one in the neighbor's bedroom ;) 73 de Scott/WA4168SWL From: mal hamilton
