A quick trawl of the Internet reveals Harris in the States and Transradio in Berlin do turnkey off the shelf LF Hi power AM Solidstate TXs in the 600kW range. The BBC could probably buy a slack hand full of them out of Mark Thompson's annual salary (at about £1000000 including perks) and still have enough left over for a nice Chrimas.

And our first exact frequency generator was baseg on Droitwich. 6SJ7 or similar as amplifier followed by 6SL7 or 6SN7 as square-wave generator 200kHz. The harmonics were calibrating points up to many MHz. The equipment was built in a small aluminum bread bin. And we were angry, when the frequency was shifted to 198kHz. |
