Hi Dex,
...well, poor results - guess it's all relative to
expectations. When we started more than a decade ago, we went out
of our gardens with aural receivers, and were pretty disappointed we
couldn't hear anything beyond a couple of hundred meters. Then we played
with Argo and QRSS, but (at least for me) it was still a long way
until we managed to overcome the near field boundary to the "true"
radiation regime (5.3 km at 9 kHz). Going to milliHz resolution
bandwidth turned out to be essential. Then in March 2010 Stefan came
along with his kite - the rest is history ;-)
In my eyes it's a well worthwhile field of
experimentation, with lots of things to learn. Don't forget, the first
transatlantic detection is still waiting out there...

PS had a typo regarding the effective height
of my antenna - it's 8 m, not 80 cm.

40 meter tall antenna! I had poor results a few years ago loading my LF
antenna on 9 kHz. Of course there are those who know how to make most
anything work and there are those who don't. If Markus couldn't make
it work I doubt anyone could.
Guess it's time for more trial and
error engineering.
