Hi Tony

The only stupid question is the one that matters and isn’t asked!!

I use thin cheap tri-rated wire (approx  2mm) from CEF (City Electrical Factors)

http://www.cef.co.uk/

I don’t know if they operate in ROI too?

I also managed to liberate a 200m role of sky TV coax from an installer friend of mine.  It’s 52 ohm (?? I know weird) and got good braid/shield cover.   OK so it’s not Westflex 103 or Heliax but you don’t need it for where we operate

You can always get a cheap full size G5RV and then strap the feeder to form a “T” antenna.   You can add extra length to the arms to get more top cap too.

A local motor/armature rewinder company may likely have some “ends of roll” that they would sell to you for a fair price?

HTH and see you soon on the bands

With best regards

Jim

Sorry to ask a stupid newbie question but what is the best wire for my aerial ?

I had thought about getting a couple of 100m rolls of cheapo RG58 and soldering the centre and screen together, or is there a better way ?
