I am at a "remote" location with a shaky Internet connection, but here are
some results on my experiments with an audio limiter ahead of Jason.
Here is a recording of my Lowfer beacon at 200 km during the daytime, with
good copy:

Here is a recording taken 1 hour after local sunset with lots of static and
a weaker signal:

Here is the same post sunset recording with the CoolEdit brick wall limiter
followed by 20 dB of attenuation to get the level back down. The limiter was
made by raising all inputs greater than -90 dB up to 0 dB level. Nasty. But
effective!

As you can see, some improvement results. I plan to do more playing over the
next few days.
