The addition of a modified PA0LQ audio filter would probably do the trick.
A good number of us on the NDB list are using 8Hz or narrower versions of
this filter with great success.

Steve Ratzlaff has recently modified the 8 pole Vectronics CW audio filter
kit, model VEC-821K (list price of $29.95) to give switchable bandwidths of
6Hz, 7Hz and 14 Hz.

I have a 1650/6 which Geoff mofided by the addition of an opto-encoder
for tuning as well as some other modifications. It works well but lacks a
narrow cw filter which would be necessary for LF work.
