Hello Alan,

I did get a  good laugh from the last line in your email!!!

I think it would be simpler to send 2 speeds CW  but the proper packaging
of characters
would satify both users at one time.  I also agree that it would not be as
effective as
QRSS because of the keying and sidebands but I have been able to see traces
on spectran
of say 6 WPM when I could not copy it by ear,,..   In this case a character
can be seen, certainly it woould be
different than the 6 WPM ID.  Just a thought

Hi Paul, wouldn't it be simpler for the beacon to send alternate 10wpm and
QRSS calls?? the problem is that QRSS is only required when you CAN'T hear
the signal. If you don't transmit solid QRSS dots and dashes you are
throwing away some of the theoretical advantage of being able to integrate
the power in a narrow bandwidth. Personally after listening to it for a
couple of years I find I can read 3 sec dot QRSS by ear....certainly 2
character calls.... Mind you it may be an effect of encroaching
geriaticity!!
