Ok Gary,

Well the rx situatiuon is a little 'odd' the Ra1778 is the last of the non cpu contolled rx's made by racal and the ra6790gm is about as good as it got with the cpu controlled set-up

Must be over 15 years differance in the ages , but the 1778 has proved to be quieter, to the point of resolving signals that the other will not .....I had read that it was 'tweaked' compared with the 1772

The only thing is , the front end in the 6790 dose not suffer from cross mod , caused by the local MW station.. but with a line filter , the 1778 is actually comming out on top ... quaint ?

G ..

Hi graham, LF,

I just posted reply when your mail came thro' Thanks.

I presume that is a good sign that the RA1778 is quieter meaning Rx noise level ?? better SNR.

Hi John,

Thats Gary , g4wgt , running 45.45 baud rtty , 23 Hz shift , you need select 23 hz shift rtty in multi psk ... or mode 23 hz in mmtty , he is dead center on 503.6

G ....

Intresting night , trying out my RA1778 , for the first time on data , looks to be quieter than the RA6790GM .... not quite what I expected !
