I heard G3olb from here (near Brighton).about s3 but find I am not beating
against any bfo but rather reading the note produced by his mixing with the
large data carrying carrier. Hence the note is unchanged no matter where I
tune.
Attempts to use a bfo just result in a loud tone from the data carrier..
I confess I was using a AR88 but with narrowest filter..

Hello Jim,
Thanks for the call last Saturday. Sorry you had a difficult time to copy.
I wonder if you heard G3OLB who I worked prior to your call? Tom reported
599 and a large signal from me. I am wondering if I am suffering from
great
attenuation as a resuly of my location which is only 30ft asl. and
surrounded by hills rising up to 550 ft. I live in a hole really. I am
not
conversant with the nature of propagation under these circumstances. I
wonder if you or any of the lf group have any thoughts on this matter? If
my
problem is the transmitting antenna I can work on that but if its the
location that is difficult.
