Finbar's beacon is about 6dB down on his maximum signal here.
To Dave : what signalstrengths did you get from Finbar before (some months
ago)
I often heard him 10 to 20dB S/N, so even is he is running less power than
normal I should at least 'see' him with Spectogram.
I didn't vary the operating conditions since Friday evening so the band must
have been changing.
Regarding GM3YXM/P : thanks for the nice QSO, I could hear you all weekend
but with remarkable signalstrength variations (between 549 and 329). Maybe
you did some antenna-tests.
I would certainly like to try the "meander" aerial mentioned in technical
topics in the Rad Com this month. It consists of a quarter wave of wire,
grounded at one end, running up and down between a high support line and one
near the ground until the whole length is used up. This "curtain" is then
folded round into a circular form looking like a tall thin bird-cage. A
gamma feed is used at one of the low points near the feed end.
Sadly, I only had 300mtrs of wire with me!
