Hi Jay and Stefan, nice plot Jay Yes you will get a signals at later than local dawn at the tx. The signal should propagate provided the 1st hop point (~ 1200km west ) is in darkness at about 90km altitude. As a bonus you often get a short "enhanced" period at this time. I think that is caused by the local dawn at the TX end suppressing the higher hop modes as the D-layer starts to form. I have seen signal from Joe VO1NA which actually crossed in one hop, rather than the normal 2 hops. The shadow at 90km was at mid-Atlantic at the time. the strength wasn't as good as the best full darkness path signals but it popped up fully readable for about 15 to 20 mins.
