Hi Gary,
I use an FT847 on 4m, and can confirm it is both inefficient and deaf.
But it does work, and I have had some nice contacts on it - including
Portugal this year.
May I recommend the website
http://www.70mhz.org/
Where there is useful information about equipment for 4 meters.
Also the "fourmeters" email reflector which operates in very much the same
way as this one (and is nearly as active) can be found on "Yahoo Groups" -
it is is a good place to discuss topics such as this, but also to arrange
skeds etc.

Subject: LF: 70 MHz - 4 Mtrs - off topic
Hi All,
Sorry for the "off topic" subject. Just curious at the moment if anyone
knows if there is any HF/VHF/UHF multi-mode transceiver has or can be
modded
to Tx/Rx on the 70MHz/4 metre band.
