From Dave G3YMC

I have deliberately taken a back seat in recent days. It would be unfair of
me to comment adversely on the recent transatlantic communications as I have
not been part of them, but it must be agreed that they are a start. The
achievements are not insignificant, and it is up to the individuals
concerned as to whether they are to be classed as QSOs in the normal amateur
sense of the word. It must be seen a basis to build on.

The suggestion from Andre that now is perhaps the time to split off the high
tech digital techniques on to another reflector is however timely and I have
been thinking this for some while. I know I am not alone in having no
interest in this aspect of lf, and like all aspects of amateur radio we all
have different interests. However I am acutely aware that there are quite a
few who have subscribed to the reflector but subsequently unsubscribed as
they did not want their in boxes full of messages they had no interest in.
I myself delete around 95% of reflector messages. The reflector in its
original form was intended to promote interest in lf; it is the newcomers we
want to keep, and if the content of the reflector is not to their liking
they will not stay.

As longer standing members divert to the more specialised modes it does seem
logical that a seperate reflector be set up for their interest, although
others would see it as devisive.

I have nothing against the new digital modes (and in my professional
capacity I am certainly not out of touch with technology) but it is not what
I want to do in amateur radio. I took a short break from lf last week to
work D68C in the Comoros on 12 hf band slots in three days (and they made
100k qsos in seven days...). Now that is amateur radio in my opinion!
