Welcome to the reflector. Not only are questions permissible, they they are practically compulsory. We have already made the mistakes you are probably going to make, so put your proposals forward and group members will help you get the maximum fun for the minimum hassle.

Hello Mike, LFer's

Thanks for making me feel welcome on the LF reflector. I thought that
I'd pass along a progress report. Despite weeks of steady rain and way
below normal temps, I've managed to fabricate the frame for my VE7SL
style loop and just today I got the 16 foot high mast for it into place and
guyed four ways. Being on the shore of Lake Huron, we experience a
lot of strong winds, so I'm building everything heavy duty.

Equipment wise, I plan to use my venerable old TS-440 as my receiver,
along with a Timewave DSP-59+, and the latest version of Spectran in
my older Pentium II running Win 98. I've been playing with that setup,
using it to log some NDBs for practice in tuning and tweeking. A lot to
learn, but a lot of fun as well.

Hopefully the weather will improve enough in the next few weeks for me
to actually get the loop wound and in place on the mast. As soon as it's
operational, I'll be watching for some activity from you fellows, but in
the meantime, I'm enjoying reading the postings each day of what is
being accomplished!
