Hi Ian. What a complicated business. Keep it simple
and put a series capacitor of several Mfd in series with the RF output,
then a matching transformer from 4 ohms to 50 ohms,
use 50 ohm coax to the loading coil at the base of the antenna. Adjust this coil
for resonance and 50 ohm matching and I would be surprised if you had any more
problems. Disregard any other advice from some quarters, because when they were
using the BK amps their sigs were pathetic until they got the DJ.
Tuning for max SMOKE is NOT the way to proceed.
With the above suggestions you will be able to use a normal sensitive SWR bridge
and know exactly how you stand. This method avoids blowing FETS or
FUSES quicker than you replace them.
