I always used an AR88LF on 136, but tapped the IF and fed it into another receiver with better filtering. I too found the IF skirt selectivity of the AR88 inadequate, however using it as a tunable converter worked very well with either a Racal RA17, or with a Ricebox which was deaf lower down the scale.
