Hi Peter, that was an interetsing selection of ideas. I think they all refer
to the use of PL259s with UR67 or RG213 half-inch stuff. Unfortunately there
isnt and easily available ferrule-fit plug for that cable size so those
techniques still need to be used. We tried in the mid 90s to get a supply of
them, from MaCom but they would only supply a distibutor who would buy a
minimum of 1000 (or was it 5000) RS said there was "no call for it" and
likewise Farnell. I believe the one-off distributor price would have been in
the region of £8-£9 each.....we used N-types and where necessary adapters.
I think John was interested in RG-58 fitting plugs where the clamp type are
readily available. Radio is bad enough to have to cart into caves without
having to deal with unweildy UR-67 /RG213 !! He needs to fit "existing
equipment" which must be compatible amongst Cave Rescue groups, nationally
and internationally so changing connectors is not an option.
