Dear all. I have fixed the TS850 so should be able to hear the DX again.... noise permitting! The fault was one of the DDS chips on the "CAR" unit, the one that produces the mix frequency from 8.8MHz

Hi Dave, What about telling us how to do it - I refer to 64 pin Surface Mount Devices? I found it a real struggle to solder in an 8-pin DDS SMD but did improve with practice (killed the first one!).

John. What about telling us how to do it - I refer to 64 pin Surface Mount Devices? I had the advantage of a quick "course" on surface-mount installation by a sales rep for a soldering-iron company!

A really good headband binocular magifier helps. Such devices are available from RS ref no. 606-989 at x2.7 magnification (£52 ish) with alternative lenses for x1.8 to x3.5. Somewhat cheaper is 290-1
