Andy ...I have looked at many dozens of tankers and container ships here in Vancouver over the past few years and non of them have any of the traditional inverted L's, Marconis etc that they once had

Thanks all for the good advice. I have been playing with the bearing tension adjustment screw and seem to have it back to normal...time will tell. It as an older 50ua round meter and has likely seen

Well it seems that my 'closer look' (this time with headband magnifier plus a magnifying glass) paid off. I was able to locate a miniscule fragment of something between the moving coil and the magnet
