It is just a bit hard to understand why some > people call split ALWAYS. I think the reason is that on MF / LF people have a narrow band antenna that must be tuned accurately and carefully. It can make a significant difference in the matching if you QSY by 100 Hz, when using a high Q and low capacitive (i.e. small) antenna, especially when class-E PAs are used ;-) Thus i think people concentrate on matching the antenna once and then want to focus on the QSO process instead of retuning during the night.
