Content preview: Hello Andy, I have built a heat sinked SSR to control my big linear PSU on / OFF It works fine with anything over about 2.1V DC on the input pins and switches the psu with full load with no excess heating over a long period. But when I connect the input pins to a serial port (COM4 in this case, I have an add on serial card with 4 extra ports) with the +ve input pin on the SSR to terminals 4 and 7 connected together on the serial connector, and the -ve SSR pin to terminal 5 (ground) on COM4 there is no change of state when SimpleTimer turns on or off. I see -5.5V all the time on the SSR input pins. I run Lady Heather software on COM7 and it works fine with my Trimble Thunderbolt GPS. Windows 7 64 bit sees no issue with the COM ports and says COM4 is working correctly. Any idea what I have done wrong or how to test things?
