What I will do is to feed the balanced 300ohm radio antenna input terminals from some twin screened RF cable I have and run it out though the rear wall of the shack, this being a grounded steel panel, and back in just far enough to pick up the antenna terminals. Having to use the large horizontal loop antenna in an inverted-L configuration for LF and MF doesn't help but I have no choice. 73, Hugh, M0DSZ On 12/10/2016 20:01, DK7FC wrote: > Hi Hugh, > > But then the problem should be solved when placing the isolation audio > transformer on the laptops end, so the wire does not act as an > antenna. The QRM is direct from the circuits in the computer, having a cast alloy frame, grounding it helps tremendously most of the time.

Hi Hugh,

But then the problem should be solved when placing the isolation audio transformer on the laptops end, so the wire does not act as an antenna. Did you try that?
Maybe grounding the laptop to the mains earth is another idea, but only when using the audio transformer.

Hello Claudio.

Any combination of grounding wire, or no wire, makes no difference, the QRM is directly radiated. If you see my "shack" there's just enough room to sit by the desk so I can't rearrange equipment any better.  "Cosy" would be a nice description.
The laptop is usually OK but it is charged by time switch about every 2.5 hours and when fully charged, if the timer is still, on it can wipe 10 to 20dB s/n off the signal in spite of having a linear charger.

The AC 230 power supply in the shack and the desktop computer grounding wire are equipotential, share the same grounding system?
