I'm greatly looking forward to see your signal on 36km. Let us define the goal to do a real QSO, ok? :-) I'm not a friend of multi layer coils on VLF with 0.4mm wire. But stacking the buckets will increase the L significantly relative to 8 buckets decoupled from each other. Just start to wind a first one, measure it, then a second one, measure it, then couple them, measure them... You know the photos, by using those iron powder cores inside the coil i could save 2 of 10 buckets which allows me now to run 280 mA instead of 200 mA, a 3 dB improvement. So the cores are very worth the 'effort'. For a 0.4mm wire, things are much less critical. But why not running 2A into the antenna, if your C is high enough , i.e. voltages managable... Are the buckets really conical so you can couple them good? Please show photos once you have some :-) Music, maybe: Turn, turn, turn ;-) 73, Stefan PS: What about the RX? :-) Am 29.04.2016 10:54, schrieb VIGILANT Luis Fernández: > Hi VLF > In my run for "the copper thing" I called a friend which is in the > industrial painting > He is going to provide me a couple of paint buckets 29cm diameter by > 31cm high > I plan to test a couple of coils with 0.4mm enameled copper using this > buckets as forms > If it is not the best idea, please tell me before doing it that way > From the coil calculators I can estimate 750 turns for a single layer > coil which would be about 105mH > The buckets can be plugged one inside the other. VERY nice! I'm greatly looking forward to see your signal on 36km. Let us define the goal to do a real QSO, ok? :-)

Are the buckets really conical so you can couple them good?

Please show photos once you have some :-)

Music, maybe: Turn, turn, turn ;-)

Hi VLF

In my run for "the copper thing" I called a friend which is in the industrial painting
He is going to provide me a couple of paint buckets 29cm diameter by 31cm high
I plan to test a couple of coils with 0.4mm enameled copper using this buckets as forms
If it is not the best idea, please tell me before doing it that way

From the coil calculators I can estimate 750 turns for a single layer coil which would be about 105mH
The buckets can be plugged one inside the other. Similar as Markus/Stefan Yogourt containers

Can this stacking provide an increase of inductance ?? Something aprox to have a multi layer coil ?
Not counting any help from ferrite cores dopping .... I'm afraid that more than eight bucket coils will be needed
to reach over 800mH. A lot of copper wire and time to wound it indeed

Multi layer winding with 0.4mm wire looks like something really hard for me. Don´t know it ir really worths the effort

Any ideas for a proper music track during the winding process ?? Spherics perhaps ? ;-)
