I'm sorry about the mediocre sensitivity of the grabber in this location. The noise level seems to be constant irrespective of day or night, which is a sure indication that I'm dominated by local noise rather than band noise. But here the antenna is lower (no trees on the island), ground connection is worse (ashes and rock), and a noisy environment. Not sure about the degree of directivity introduced by the Famara ridge, but as it is going up by 400 to 600 m ASL it may well have some effect.
 
If I really wanted I could probably go out into the desert, take along a couple of broomsticks to raise a wire, and record on battery for an hour or so. But then there would be no internet connection, and it could only be a single experiment of limited duration.

Last night i tried again but there is no chance. It appears that the DCF39 SNR is much lower than expected over that distance. Are you sure this is due to the hill on the path to DCF?
Do you think you can see the band noise / have the maximum sensitivity? I assume there could be at least 10 dB, rather 20 dB to gain. How does the diurnal wideband spectrum look there? Periodic QRM?
And do you use the same equipment as in India last year?
