Hi Edgar,

many many many many years ago, I was using diald to dial out and
connect to the internet automatically, every time an application on
the computer initiated a connection to the internet. That was under
unix. I don't know if this helps, or even if diald is available today.

If all you need is to keep it alive and you need a constant network
traffic, can you put a ping in the background?
