2) I found that selecting the MME = or WDM-KS=20 sound drivers in setup appears to bypass the "wave" slider in the audio = mixer,=20 producing high levels. Ticked the Direct-X driver=20 instead.  
 
3) Didn't stumble = here as I'm=20 running XP with admin rights.
