This system send the QSO automatically when the contact is done in both directions. One QSO every 24 hours. I've not tried it and there is some discussion on the Opera Yahoo pages about what constitutes a "QSO"! Interesting thought about an ARQ type mode for LF. Pactor is a proprietary mode and needs a licence from SCS-PTC. For some reason, there are no currently available multimode programs giving Amtor ARQ and it has dropped out of favour. However, there are some recently developed (freeware) ARQ alternatives to Amtor (e.g. V4Chat) and some that have adapted standard PSK modes for QRQ but all are really intended for HF propagation conditions. Of course Murray Greenman ZL2AFP has developed CMSK Narrow-band weak signal mode for LF/MF QSOs, although it isn't ARQ. I have been waiting to see someone trying it out on 136 kHz as it looks quite promising. http://www.qsl.net/zl1bpu/CMSK/cmsk.htm 73 Terry GW0EZY From: owner-rsgb_lf_group@blacksheep.org [mailto:owner-rsgb_lf_group@blacksheep.org] On Behalf Of mal hamilton Sent: 02 February 2012 09:48 To: rsgb Subject: LF: OPERA QSO Graham Opera seems popular, are there any plans ahead for a basic QSO mode instead of Beacon only. At present on MF/LF it has popularity in its favour over the other data modes. Instead of FEC how about the amtor approach where the transmission triggers a RX stn who responds and a QSO begins. The exchange need only be a few key words. How about modifying Amtor or Pactor for MF use. mal/g3kev
