Soldering outside is much more difficult than in the shack due to lower ambient and greater heat losses. Also a box to act as a windshield is useful. The Iron (bolt) size I have found most useful was sold by RS as part no RS 684-210. It will produce up to 500degC (it says). It works well on PL259 and similar and will cope with centre pin of 'N' type to solid inner (Heliax etc) The standard bit measures about 15 mm width. 73 On Mon, 2011-10-17 at 11:09 +0100, Tracey Gardner wrote: > My apologies for the off topic enquiry. > I'm considering buying a butane powered soldering iron for use on antennas > in the garden and fields. > I'd be grateful for any recommendations or other comments, re soldering away > from mains power, that you may have? > > 73s Tracey > > -- 73 es gd dx de pat g4gvw qth nr felixstowe uk (east coast, county of suffolk)
