I too am motivated by interest; just what decides my interest (and whether I am fully aware of it) would be a topic for a philosophy/psychology group. Some people in the younger generation claim they can multi-task (e.g. drive and text concurrently) without compromising either activity. I don't do that very well. When I'm totally immersed in one project, if I interrupt it for something else I tend to have forgotten a lot of important details when I eventually get back to it. That's why, in my youth, I would stay up all night working on some tricky algorithm. It gets worse as we get older. Nevertheless, I say: Bring on TA 8970! 73, Bill VE2IQ
