Since how many >years are you participating on LF? Hmmm, let's see... What year were you born Stefan? :-) I started with Ray Petit's Coherent CW back in the mid '70's on the Lowfer band. So I guess I've had the bug for about 37 years. My call then was VE3OBE. Also around at that time were Mark Mallory, Max Carter, Lyle Koehler, Herb Balfour and many other avid LF-ers. It's hard to remember exactly which year I started. My QST article on DSP was published in Jan '82, then there was a QEX article about using a digital technique instead of hardware "integrate and dump" filters to copy Coherent CW. I haven't kept many QSL cards but just had a quick look: found one from Rick, VE3OXX who received my "IQ" beacon (187.5 Khz) on July 13, 1993. I still have a QSL from Bill Cantrell dated January 1st 2000 for my reception of his "TX space" beacon (QTH Haslet, TX) on 189.700 Khz. It might interest you that Bill was using an atomic clock (Rb oscillator) for frequency stability and I was using a GPS-stabilized frequency standard at the Rx end and the mode was BPSK MS100 (100 msec per bit). Lest you think we're breaking new ground with this trans-Atlantic QRSS stuff, let me assure you it has all been done many times before! For example: in February 2004 I was able to pull a complete callsign from CT1DRP out of the noise on 135.9245 Khz. Brian was sending his *long* callsign using FSK with ASCII encoding, one minute per bit with the start of each bit synchronized to the start of each UTC minute and I used GPS timing at the Rx end. As I recall, Andy G4JNT also copied his transmission at that time. Not to forget Larry Kayser VA3LK and Laurie Mayhead G3AQC who completed a 2-way TA LF contact in February 2001. The QSO took time :-) If some particle actually travels faster than light, now that would be real news! 73, Bill VE2IQ
