DK7FC/P varied between RST349 and 559, and was generally a good readable signal on the ferrite rod antenna. The background noise level seemed to be slightly higher than during previous tests at the HF end of the band, and I found experimentally afterwards that there appeared to be some feeder-borne noise that could be reduced by around 5dB by connecting an isolating transformer into the ferrite rod coax. When this was done, the band noise appeared to be exceptionally low, and there was no noticeable difference in the noise floor between the ferrite rod and larger antennas. Stefan's /P receive setup is clearly a viable one if effective portable antennas are available, and an interesting solution to RX noise problems - especially when the weather is nice! Cheers, Jim Moritz 73 de M0BMU
