This is REAL amateur radio and not black-box operating. We've all learnt a lot. Despite easy DX on 10m again this morning, I still find getting very simple QRP gear to work on VLF, LF and MF much more interesting. There is still much fro me to do and learn at the lower end of the spectrum and I shall remain active on 8, 136 and 500kHz. Yes, happy to answer questions on my 4m QRP transverter design. It worked a few hundred km in a recent activity contest with just a dipole in the loft and should be good for some European Es DX this next few months. 73s Roger G3XBM On 26 April 2011 10:57, M0FMT wrote: > Hi Roger > > Thanks for the URL to the 4m transverter. Hi Mal.

G3XIZ continues to improve his= station and has been copied at decent range on DFCW this weekend. Others,= like me, are finding out more and more about through-the-ground VLF commu= nications and are regularly copying UK and European stations on 8.97kHz by= radiated DX. You've only to look on the news page of the Sub 9kHz Ama= teur Radio website to see just how much is going on on VLF. See https://sites.google.com/site/sub9khz/news

Certainly 10m has been very good lately, with WSPR reports from around= the planet with my 5W (or less) and a small wire halo antenna. 6m and 4m Es= DX is also about to start and I'm hoping for some QRP DX on 4m with= my homebrew transverter. See http://sites.= google.com/site/g3xbmqrp/Home/4m_transverter.

In my view it is not either/or but all and more.=A0

Good luck= on whichever end of the spectrum you experiment Mal.

Maybe it is time to abandon the lower frequencie= s and concentrate on the higher end like 10, 6 and 4 metres.
The results on VLF es LF es MF currently do not= justify the effort, VLF acty from the UK especially poor=A0in spite of=A0= several stations being permitted to operate on the 9 khz band.
Time for a change!!
