You mention that you are not required to Transmit while that is true the skill needed to transmit, set up an appropriate resonated antenna, build a Transmiter and the ability to send and receive CW is a totally different ball game. For receive the only requirement is a Crystal set and a bit of wire, hardly rocket science.
