What I did use for "portable" operation (before discovering the 96 kHz soundcard in my Ideapad S10 netbook) was an SDR-IQ (which has a much lower lower cutoff frequency than Perseus), or an E-MU 0202. No visible difference comparing all these in the "upper" VLF spectrum, though. It's much more important to have an very 'linear' input preamp at the antenna, or -if that's not sufficient- a preselector. Living less than 100 km away from DHO38, their signal dominates even the local 'transmitters' on 15.626 kHz ;-) See http://www.qsl.net/dl4yhf/vlf_rdf/latest_vlf_spectra.htm for some examples. Most of these spectrograms (especially the 'RDF' ones) were made with the E-MU. The E-field & H-field comparisons were made with the SDR-IQ. Cheers, Wolf .
