This sounds quite interesting.
An other option is to use a twisted pair of CAT5 network cable and  
rf-isolation transformers at the antenne and receiver end.
The power for the active antenna can be fed over a second twisted pair.
I have used this in a few stubborn cases.
  
I used a couple of these ununs, galvanically isolated, at the two ends of the coax.
It helps a lot. The core was a very high permeability one.
